Wax Begonia

Indoor Air Benefits

Propagation

begonia semperflorens

If starting Wax Begonia from seed, do not cover the seeds with soil. Cover them with glass or plastic until germination occurs. Wax begonias are easy to propagate by softwood cuttings. Take cuttings from plants brought indoors for winter bloom and root them to produce spring transplants

The plant grows best in semi shaded conditions and moderate temperatures. The potting medium could be peat or compost or a mixture of peat or compost with sand or other ingredients. Begonias thrive at higher humidity, producing larger leaves and less marginal burning of the leaves. The soil needs to be kept moist at all times but not soggy. Avoid excess watering.
